What are Enhanced Domains in Salesforce?
Salesforce is requiring that customers enable enhanced domains, which updates the hostname formats for domains that serve Salesforce Orgs, to comply with the latest browser and security standards.
why salesforce is enforcing enhanced domains?
To comply with latest browser requirements, and security standards Salesforce is requiring customers to use enhanced domains.
Will you be impacted?
With enhanced domains, your company-specific My Domain name is included in the URLs that serve your Salesforce org, including Experience Cloud sites, Salesforce Sites, Visualforce pages, Sandboxes, and content files.
Some of the issues that can arise are:
- Users may experience errors when attempting to access Salesforce. This may include but is not limited to Experience Cloud sites, Salesforce Sites, and Visualforce pages.
- Some embedded content stored in Salesforce may no longer appear.
- Third-party applications may lose access to your data.
- Single sign-on integrations with sandboxes may fail.
- Single sign-on integrations with orgs using the *.cloudforce.com and *.database.com domain suffixes may fail.
To avoid any issues that may arise, testing these changes in a sandbox org is highly recommended before deploying to your live production environment.

To prepare for and schedule a My Domain change, key information must be gathered regarding the required updates, testing, participants, and deployment. To learn more about the steps within this process, more information can be found in Salesforce’s help article “Understand the My Domain Change Process”.
Additionally, there are best practices that Salesforce recommends when proceeding with a My Domain change and example checklists to follow. Additional guidance can be found in Salesforce’s help articles “Review Recommended Practices for a My Domain Change” and “Example My Domain Change Checklists”. If the guidance provided is not followed before deploying a change to your My Domain login URL, you can be locked out of your Salesforce org.
When will this change take place?
Starting in January 2023 with the release of Salesforce’s Spring ‘23 update, Enhanced Domains will be required for all orgs. If Enhanced Domains aren’t deployed before enforcement, Salesforce will automatically deploy the feature for you.
What Actions You Need To Take?
Because these changes will affect all application URLs, it is HIGHLY suggested that you test and deploy this change before Salesforce enforcement and automatic deployment.
